11 Best Loyal Anime Characters Who Never Betray Their Friends
Anime is full of betrayal, shifting alliances, and selfish characters who will hurt others without hesitation.
But not all anime characters are like that. Sometimes, loyal characters stand out for their unwavering loyalty, selflessness, and care.
These characters often teach, support, and encourage others.
I’ve decided to compile a list of 11 loyal anime characters. This list is comprised of both popular and underrated picks, and they are in no particular order.
11 Loyal Anime Characters
11. Lutz: Ascendance of a Bookworm

Lutz is one of my favorite anime characters. He’s best friends with Myne, the protagonist of Ascendance of a Bookworm, and supports her—even when it’s difficult and her ideas don’t make sense.
In Episode 13 of Season 1, he says that he cares more about Myne’s survival than his own.
His character is loyal through and through.
10. Okabe Rintaro: Steins;Gate

Another one of my favorites on this list is Okabe Rintaro. He’s the protagonist of Steins;Gate and would move mountains for his friends. He tries over and over (and over) again to save those he loves, and his perseverance is literally astounding.
He’s not perfect, and can fall into depression, but his loyalty is an essential part of his character.
9. Lancelot: Romeo x Juliet

Lancelot is a very underrated character. He’s the doctor from Romeo x Juliet, and his dedication to his rightful ruler is admirable.
*Spoiler* He even dies in her place.
Lancelot may not have a lot of screen time in the anime, but he is certainly steadfast.
8. Emma: The Promised Neverland

Emma from The Promised Neverland cares about every single one of her many siblings. They live at Grace Field House, an orphanage with a dark secret.
When she discovers this dark truth, she realizes that she—and all of her beloved siblings—are in danger. Instead of prioritizing her own safety (which would be much easier), she comes up with a plan to save her family and sticks by them regardless of how difficult things become.
Emma’s loyalty is truly admirable, and it’s part of what makes her such a lovable character.
7. Koro-Sensei: Assassination Classroom

Koro-Sensei from Assassination Classroom is not your average teacher. The government wants him dead, and they’ve ordered his students to kill him. So, Koro-Sensei decides to train his students in both academics and assassination.
He’s beyond loyal to his students, and prioritizes their safety above all else—even if it puts him at risk.
He may be the most morally gray character on this list, but his loyalty is unwavering.
6. Takina: Lycoris Recoil

At the beginning of Lycoris Recoil, Takina, a member of the Lycoris (a group of girls who keep Japan safe) is reassigned due to her prioritizing the safety of a colleague over following orders. She has one goal in mind: rejoin the Lycoris.
She’s assigned to work with Chisoto, a Lycoris with a vastly different worldview than Takina’s. Over time, the two grow into trusted colleagues and friends, and Takina’s loyalty towards Chisoto is unmistakable.
Takina will always be there for her teammates.
5. Suwa: Orange

Suwa from Orange is the definition of loyalty.
His desire to put others before himself reveals his sincere heart for others. He refuses to give up on his friends, even if it means risking his own happiness.
His selflessness is beyond admirable and heartwarming.
4. Mitsuhide and Kiki: Snow White with the Red Hair

Mitsuhide and Kiki are the retainers for Prince Zen in Snow White with the Red Hair. They care about Zen’s safety and stick by his side, even when he makes reckless decisions. They are reliable guards and even more reliable friends.
Both Kiki and Mitsuhide would cross oceans to protect Zen.
3. Gunther: Ascendance of a Bookworm

Gunther is the father of Ascendance of a Bookworm’s protagonist, Myne, and he is fiercely loyal to her. When Myne is in danger, he doesn’t hesitate to protect her—even if it means risking his own life or standing up to cruel nobles. The world of Bookworm may have dangers, but Gunther makes sure his family is safe.
Gunther’s family is the most important thing to him, and his dedication is what makes him a great soldier and father.
2. Khun Aguero Agnis: Tower of God

In Tower of God, Khun Aguero Agnis partners up with the protagonist, the 25th Baam, in order to climb the tower. The two quickly become solid allies—and friends.
*Spoiler* By Season 2, Khun Aguero Agnis’ loyalty is beyond clear—Khun would do anything he possibly can to help.
Khun might be hard to read at times, but his loyalty toward Baam is constant.
1. Rak Wraithraiser: Tower of God

We can’t talk about Khun Aguero Agnis without talking about Rak Wraithraiser. In Tower of God Season 1, Rak teams up with Baam and Khun in their quest to climb the tower.
*Spoiler* Although Rak initially treats Khun and Baam as his prey, the three of them eventually become solid friends, and by the end of Season 2, it’s clear how loyal Rak is to his friends—especially Baam, or Black Turtle, as Rak likes to call him.
Rak may be rough around the edges, but like the other characters on this list, his care for Baam is heartwarming.

This was a fun review list to read as I have mot seen very much anime. Because of your website, I have seen more anime than I ever thought I would. My daughter likes it a lot, and I want to know her better. I am especially interested in seeing the Emma character you mentioned as #8 on your list. 😉
