The Night Agent Christian Review
The Night Agent is a high stakes thriller and action series created for Netflix. It explores themes of trust, loyalty to one’s country, justice, and the realization of one’s potential. I enjoyed the plot—the twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. The show’s pacing is consistently fast and there are few slow moments.
The Night Agent is one of those shows that, at first glance, has everything—intrigue, excitement, romance, high stakes, and plot twists. I’ve seen it twice, and it’s quite the ride.
However, when considering The Night Agent from a Christian perspective, concerns start to arise: it’s a really interesting and high quality television show, sure, but the content is very mature which makes me hesitant to recommend the show (or even review season 2).
The Night Agent Christian Review: The Cast
The casting is excellent—each actor perfectly embodies their character. It truly takes you on a roller coaster of emotions: thrill, love, heartbreak, and horror.
Gabriel Basso plays Peter Sutherland, and Luciane Buchanan plays Rose Larkin—Peter and Rose are the two leads.
The Night Agent Christian Review: Peter and Rose
The Night Agent doesn’t just focus on political intrigue—it also delves into the moral dilemmas of justice. Rose and Peter’s journey is more than just uncovering corruption; it’s about deciding how far they’re willing to go for the truth. Peter grapples with his loyalty to the agency versus his own sense of right and wrong.
The Night Agent Christian Reviews: The Villains *Major Spoiler Alert*
The villains are particularly well-developed. The villains show an interesting mix of humanity and utter despicability. Ashley is both manipulative and manipulated. His one weakness is his daughter, Maddie. Though he is abusive towards her, he pushes for her safety behind the scenes, unwilling to allow her to become another victim in the government’s plots. Maddie, however, resents her father for his abuse, bringing her to work against him and his colleagues.
The moment of truth between the two of them happens when Maddie is locked in a bomb-proof shelter at a government facility with her father during a terrorist attack he has helped to orchestrate. She tries to leave and her dad refuses to let her…at least, until she threatens to tell everyone the truth about him, and he lets her go, ultimately choosing his reputation and power over his family
Then there’s Diane Farr, who got pulled into the corruption because the president’s reputation was at risk, and she is extremely loyal to the president. Her loyalty brings her to cover up false flag events and even helping to plan assassinations, yet her loyalty to the president remains strong throughout, and she is only doing this to protect the president.
Loyalty and Love in The Night Agent *Spoiler Alert*
The Night Agent touches upon loyalty and love. Peter cut his godfather out of his life for years, resenting him for publishing a story that portrayed Peter’s father in a negative light. Peter eventually reconciles with his godfather, who, despite their past conflict, is willing to help him.
Then we have the loyalty and love between the vice president’s daughter, Maddie, and Chelsea, the head of her security.
Although Chelsea is merely assigned to Maddie’s security detail, she genuinely cares for her and risks her life to protect her. Chelsea forgives Maddie for her mistakes and, above all, strives to keep her safe. Maddie appreciates Chelsea and even helps her.
The Night Agent Christian Review: Agent Monks
Of course, we can’t write a The Night Agent review without talking about Agent Monks, one of Maddie’s other agents. He’s such an honorable member of the agency and mentors Chelsea, growing her into a better agent. Monks is also a national hero, risking his life in the past for the president and even taking a bullet for them. Personally, I find Chelsea and Monks to be the two of the most morally upright supporting characters in the show.
My Favorite Character: Cisco *Spoiler*
Then there’s Cisco, Peter’s friend from school and a police officer who drops everything to help Rose and Peter. His death (while trying to help Rose) is very sad. Though I understand his death is emotionally necessary and provides the necessary stakes, it’s still sad and I wish he had survived.
The Night Agent Christian Review: Justice Over Revenge
Despite everything that has happened to her, Rose chooses justice over revenge—ensuring the villain survives long enough to be arrested and held accountable.
The Night Agent Christian Review: My Concerns About the Show
Though I personally enjoyed the show (as an adult woman in her mid 20s), I still have concerns related to the content and the messages presented in the show.
Peter and Rose take extreme risks and are willing to sacrifice everything, including their lives, to uncover the truth. Their journey often leads them to make morally questionable decisions, such as car theft, violent confrontations (some leading to death), hacking, and running from the law.
Peter and Rose take risks and are willing to risk everything–including their lives–to discover the truth. Their actions frequently cross legal and moral boundaries including car theft, violent confrontations (some of which result in death), running from the law, hacking, and lying to the government.
Nearly every episode contains intense mature content, particularly in the areas of sexual material, graphic violence, and strong language. Additionally, it’s mentioned that Maddie’s teacher is gay.
Deception plays a central role in the plot, with characters frequently hiding information, whether for self-preservation or manipulation.
Corruption is a major theme with officials orchestrating violent fabricated crises, attempting assassinations, and eliminating anyone who threatens their agenda.
